Disaster Risk Management Consultant – 21.5 months, Kathmandu

About the role

UNICEF Nepal seeks a Disaster Risk Management Consultant to provide technical and coordination support for its DRR and emergency preparedness programmes, including the SUPER project and Anticipatory Action initiatives. The role involves strengthening planning, implementation, monitoring and knowledge management across federal, provincial and local levels.

Key responsibilities

• Strengthen coordination with government counterparts (federal, provincial, local) and stakeholders such as NDRRMA, MoHA, MoLMCAFAGA, LDTA.
• Lead information management, monitoring and progress tracking, ensuring timely collection, analysis and reporting of programme results.
• Facilitate multi‑sectoral collaboration with consortium partners, UN agencies, private sector, CSOs and INGOs.
• Support capacity building of provincial and local governments and civil society on emergency preparedness, DRR and anticipatory action.
• Travel frequently to field locations in Madhesh, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Disaster Risk Management or related field.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in disaster risk management, focusing on urban preparedness and response, with experience coordinating across federal, provincial and local governments.
• Fluency in English and Nepali; knowledge of local languages is an asset.

Required skills

• Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Database management and ICT skills.
• Strong analytical, writing and communication abilities.
