Caster Manager – Continuous Casting Operations

About the role

The Caster Manager will lead the Continuous Casting Machine (CCM) operation to meet production targets while ensuring product quality, safety and process stability. The role coordinates closely with melting, ladle treatment and downstream rolling mills to guarantee seamless material flow.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and execute the CCM production schedule, monitor daily, monthly and annual casting targets and optimise speed, sequence length and tundish practices.
• Control casting parameters (speed, mould level, oscillation, secondary cooling, superheat, withdrawal speed, tundish temperature, strand temperature) to minimise losses, breakouts and downtime.
• Ensure billets/slabs meet chemical, dimensional, surface and internal quality standards; work with Quality to resolve defects.
• Manage moulds, mould powder, tundish, SEN and other consumables, coordinating with Maintenance and Stores for timely supply.
• Coordinate ladle availability, temperature, chemistry and cleanliness with LRF/AOD and SMS teams.
• Allocate cast material to downstream mills, minimise inventory and handling delays.
• Lead CCM supervisors and operators, provide training, shift planning and performance monitoring.
• Maintain safety compliance, conduct incident investigations and support preventive maintenance.

Required profile

• B.E./B.Tech in Metallurgical, Materials or related engineering discipline.
• 8–12 years of steel plant experience with at least 3 years in a supervisory/managerial CCM role.
• Proven track record in continuous casting operations, process optimisation and cross‑functional coordination.
