School Readiness Assessment Consultant

About the role

The School Readiness Assessment Consultant will provide technical back‑stopping to the Education Review Office (ERO) throughout the full assessment cycle. This remote consultancy supports UNICEF’s mission to improve early childhood education outcomes in Nepal.

Key responsibilities

• Review and refine the assessment framework, tools, and sampling design.
• Develop assessment protocols, manuals, and training materials for assessors and supervisors.
• Conduct pilot testing, oversee data collection, ensure quality assurance, and manage data.
• Perform data analysis, prepare comprehensive reports, and disseminate findings.
• Strengthen the capacity of ERO staff through training and mentorship.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Education, Statistics, Data Science or a related field.
• At least 10 years of professional experience in sampling, quantitative assessment, and large‑scale education surveys.
• Demonstrated experience designing and implementing education or social‑science assessments.
• Proven report‑writing expertise (provide links to previous reports).
• Familiarity with early childhood/primary education and Nepal’s education system is desirable.
• Excellent command of Nepali and English.
• Prior work with government, UNICEF or other UN agencies is an asset.

Required skills

• Advanced technical skills in R (or compatible statistical software).
• Strong analytical, data‑management and data‑presentation capabilities.
