School Readiness Assessment Consultant (Remote, Kathmandu)

About the role

UNICEF is seeking a seasoned consultant to provide technical back‑stopping for the Education Review Office’s school readiness assessment cycle in Nepal. The role involves guiding the design, implementation and analysis of large‑scale education assessments.

Key responsibilities

• Review and refine assessment frameworks, tools and sampling designs.
• Develop assessment protocols, manuals and training materials for assessors and supervisors.
• Conduct pilot testing, oversee data collection, ensure quality assurance and manage data.
• Perform data analysis, produce reports and disseminate findings.
• Strengthen the capacity of ERO staff through coaching and technical support.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Education, Statistics, Data Science or a related field.
• Minimum 10 years of professional experience in sampling, quantitative analysis and large‑scale education assessments.
• Proven experience in report writing with examples provided.
• Familiarity with early childhood/primary education and Nepal’s education system is desirable.
• Excellent command of Nepali and English.
• Prior work with government, UNICEF or other UN agencies is an asset.

Required skills

• Advanced technical skills in R or compatible statistical software.
• Strong analytical, data management and data presentation capabilities.
