Associate Legal Researcher

About the role

The Associate Legal Researcher will support an applied legal and policy study aimed at protecting Bhaktapur’s intellectual and cultural heritage. Working from Khwopa College of Law, the researcher will conduct in‑depth analysis of national and international IP frameworks, map heritage assets, and help design a strategic action plan for the municipality.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and map intellectual property assets, traditional knowledge, cultural expressions, and local products within Bhaktapur Municipality.
• Analyze national and international legal and policy frameworks relevant to Bhaktapur’s cultural heritage.
• Assess products and services for potential Geographical Indication (GI) protection.
• Study GI and Traditional Knowledge provisions in the draft Industrial Property Bill and formulate recommendations for the municipality.
• Prepare a comprehensive Strategic Action Plan covering protection, management, and sustainable promotion of IP and cultural heritage.

Required profile

• At least a bachelor's degree in law, arts and culture, or a related interdisciplinary field from a recognized university.
• Strong legal research, analysis, and writing skills with excellent command of legal terminology and Nepali language.
• Familiarity with citation and referencing standards; ability to edit, proofread, and critically review legal and academic texts.
• High attention to detail, ability to verify legal authorities, citations, and factual assertions.
• Commitment to academic integrity, confidentiality, and professional ethics.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within an editorial/research team.
• Interdisciplinary research or work experience is required.
