Civil Engineer – AI Model Evaluation Specialist

About the role

SME Careers is seeking experienced civil engineers to help evaluate and improve advanced AI language models on domain‑specific topics. You will work directly with AI systems, ensuring that they generate accurate, safe, and technically sound civil‑engineering content.

Key responsibilities

• Assess AI‑generated responses for technical accuracy, logical soundness, completeness, and clarity across civil‑engineering subjects.
• Challenge language models with realistic design scenarios, calculations, and code‑informed tasks.
• Review and refine prompts, model outputs, explanations, and step‑by‑step engineering solutions.
• Provide structured feedback identifying factual errors, unsafe recommendations, missing constraints, or incomplete reasoning.
• Evaluate model performance on topics such as structural loads, soil behavior, slope stability, drainage design, pavement systems, reinforced concrete, steel design, and construction sequencing.
• Help define communication standards for technical civil‑engineering content produced by AI.

Required profile

• 4+ years of professional civil‑engineering experience in infrastructure design, structural analysis, geotechnical, transportation, water resources, environmental engineering, or construction management.
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline (advanced degrees or PE licensure preferred).
• Deep knowledge of civil‑engineering fundamentals, including statics, mechanics of materials, soil mechanics, hydraulics, and construction methods.
• Experience with AI data training, annotation, or evaluating AI‑generated technical content is a strong plus.
