FreeCAD Mechanical CAD Expert & AI Trainer (Remote Contract)

About the role

SME Careers is looking for a remote, hourly‑contract specialist who will create realistic, challenging FreeCAD tasks, record expert demonstrations, and define objective success criteria. Your work will feed AI models that need to understand parametric CAD workflows.

Key responsibilities

• Author production‑realistic CAD tasks covering sketching, part design, assemblies, and technical drawings.
• Record end‑to‑end expert demonstrations using provided screen‑capture tools, capturing actions, interface state, and file changes.
• Document each workflow step‑by‑step in clear English and specify verification and success criteria.
• Define intermediate checkpoints and distinguish between dimensionally correct and truly correct models.
• Produce tasks of varying difficulty, from simple sketch‑pad operations to multi‑step cross‑application workflows.
• Review and quality‑check recordings from other contributors, ensuring realism and compliance with project standards.
• Maintain recordings free of personal data and use only approved software; closed‑source AI assistants are prohibited.

Required profile

• 2–5 years of professional experience in mechanical design, product development, or manufacturing engineering.
• Genuine proficiency with FreeCAD, especially Sketcher and Part Design workbenches.
• Strong parametric modeling fundamentals: fully‑constrained sketches, datum planes, expressions, spreadsheet‑driven parameters, and awareness of topological naming.
• Practical troubleshooting skills for constraint solver failures, over‑constrained sketches, and broken feature references.
• Working knowledge of at least two additional FreeCAD workbenches (e.g., Assembly, TechDraw, Draft, Spreadsheet, FEM, CAM/Path).
• Fluency with common CAD file formats: STEP, IGES, BREP, STL/mesh.
• Ability to install and run recording tools on Windows 11, Ubuntu (X11), or macOS.
• Comfort being screen‑recorded and disciplined about keeping personal or confidential geometry out of view.
• English proficiency (minimum B2) with clear written communication.
