Furniture Technical Designer

About the role

The Furniture Technical Designer converts design concepts into accurate, manufacturable furniture products. You will create engineering drawings, 3D models, bills of materials and production documentation while ensuring compliance with quality, structural performance and manufacturability standards.

Key responsibilities

• Develop detailed engineering drawings and production documentation for wood and upholstered furniture.
• Create and maintain accurate 2D and 3D CAD models.
• Produce complete bills of materials (BOMs), cut lists, and hardware schedules.
• Design furniture components and assemblies for efficient manufacturing and assembly.
• Specify materials, hardware, fasteners, upholstery components, and construction methods.
• Verify dimensions, tolerances, and fit between all components.

Required profile

• Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in furniture design or equivalent industry experience.
• Strong understanding of furniture construction methods and manufacturing processes.
• Experience creating production drawings and engineering documentation.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
• Experience with upholstered and wood furniture manufacturing.
• Understanding of wood movement, material properties, and finish systems.

Required skills

• Proficiency with SOLIDWORKS.
• Knowledge of furniture engineering principles and best practices.
• Experience with design for manufacturability (DFM).
• Ability to perform tolerance analysis and ensure component fit.
• Strong ability to read and write technical documentation.
