Construction Manager – Hydro Project

About the role

The Construction Manager leads all on‑site activities for a large‑scale hydropower project, ensuring safe execution, schedule adherence, budget control, and compliance with design and regulatory requirements. The role spans civil, hydro‑mechanical and electro‑mechanical works, including headworks, tunnels, waterways, powerhouse and related infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Translate drawings, specifications and schedules into site work plans and daily/weekly targets.
• Plan and coordinate sequencing of civil works (river diversion, cofferdams, intake, tunnels, surge shaft, penstock, powerhouse, tailrace) with mechanical and electrical installations.
• Mobilise manpower, plant, equipment and materials to meet the construction programme.
• Monitor progress against baseline schedule, identify slippage and implement recovery measures.
• Supervise construction methods for tunnelling, drilling & blasting, concreting, grouting, dam/weir works and slope stabilization.
• Review method statements, shop drawings and work procedures before execution.
• Enforce QA/QC procedures and oversee materials testing (concrete, aggregates, reinforcement, welds).
• Coordinate design queries, RFIs and as‑built documentation.
• Control contract compliance, measurement of works, interim payments and variations.
• Lead HSE activities, toolbox talks, safety audits and incident investigations.
• Liaise with client, consultants, contractors and local authorities; prepare progress reports and attend coordination meetings.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing on‑site construction for hydropower or large civil‑mechanical projects.
• Strong knowledge of civil, hydro‑mechanical and electro‑mechanical construction processes.
• Ability to plan, schedule and control resources to meet project milestones.
• Experience supervising multidisciplinary teams and contractor performance.
• Familiarity with contract administration, measurement and cost control.
• Commitment to high HSE standards and environmental safeguards.
