Emergency Specialist (Fixed‑Term) – Kathmandu

About the role

UNICEF is seeking an Emergency Specialist to lead emergency preparedness and response activities for the Nepal Country Office. Reporting to the Deputy Representative, you will design, implement and evaluate interventions that protect children, mothers and vulnerable communities during crises.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and coordinate emergency preparedness plans across field offices.
• Lead emergency response actions, ensuring timely delivery of life‑saving assistance.
• Oversee emergency project design, budgeting, monitoring and evaluation.
• Collaborate closely with the Chief Field Offices, Section Heads and government partners.
• Mobilise resources and fundraising to support preparedness and response initiatives.
• Provide technical guidance on disaster risk reduction and humanitarian standards.

Required profile

• Master’s degree or equivalent in International Relations, International Law, Nutrition or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in programme development, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, with proven field work.
• Experience in humanitarian contexts, DRR, maternal and neonatal health, and working with UN systems.
• Fluent in English and Nepali; knowledge of an additional UN language is desirable.

Required skills

• Knowledge of UN humanitarian reform principles and international humanitarian law.
• Understanding of global humanitarian issues and emergency preparedness frameworks.
