Chief Health (P-4) – Fixed Term – Kathmandu

About the role

The Chief Health leads UNICEF Nepal’s health portfolio, overseeing programmes that span maternal, neonatal, child survival, adolescent mental health, non‑communicable diseases and emergency preparedness. Reporting to the Deputy Representative, the role ensures strategic planning, implementation and results delivery in line with UNICEF’s global standards and the country’s health priorities.

Key responsibilities

• Provide overall leadership and management of the health team, setting clear objectives and monitoring performance.
• Develop and implement health strategies aligned with UNICEF’s Strategic Plans and the upcoming Country Programme 2028‑2032.
• Coordinate with the Ministry of Health and Population, provincial authorities and partners to strengthen health systems and improve equity.
• Oversee programme budgeting, results‑based management and reporting.
• Lead emergency preparedness and response activities, ensuring rapid and effective interventions.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree in public health, medicine, epidemiology or a related field.
• Extensive experience (minimum 10 years) in managing large‑scale health programmes in low‑ and middle‑income settings.
• Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and work with government and UN partners.
• Strong understanding of maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health, as well as non‑communicable diseases.
