Engineering Manager

About the role

TaxMD™ is looking for an Engineering Manager to own the end‑to‑end product development process for its AI‑driven tax‑planning platform. This hybrid role blends hands‑on project leadership with people management, requiring you to run sprint planning, drive roadmap execution, and mentor engineers while ensuring technical excellence.

Key responsibilities

• Own planning, backlog refinement, and release timelines; set measurable sprint goals and hold the team accountable.
• Identify and remove technical, cross‑team, or process blockers quickly.
• Run effective cadence meetings (stand‑ups, retrospectives, planning) for a fast‑moving fintech product.
• Partner with founders and leadership to translate tax‑law requirements into a realistic, prioritized roadmap.
• Write clear specs, acceptance criteria, and user stories to keep the team unblocked.
• Directly manage engineers, conduct 1:1s, provide feedback, and support performance growth.
• Hire and onboard new talent as the team scales, fostering a culture of ownership.
• Participate in architecture decisions, especially around tax‑calculation accuracy, data security, and compliance (PII, IRS e‑file standards, SOC 2).
• Balance feature velocity with technical debt and system reliability.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading software engineering teams in a fast‑paced environment.
• Strong ownership mindset with the ability to drive delivery and remove blockers.
• Excellent collaboration skills across product, compliance, and leadership functions.
• Track record of hiring, mentoring, and building high‑performing engineering cultures.
• Comfort with making technical trade‑offs under regulatory constraints.

Required skills

• Experience with tax‑calculation or financial compliance systems.
• Knowledge of data security best practices and standards (SOC 2, PII protection).
• Familiarity with IRS e‑file requirements and related regulatory frameworks.
