Senior QA Engineer / QA Lead

About the role

We are seeking a Senior QA Engineer / QA Lead to own quality across our engineering team at Upaya’s head office in Kathmandu. This hands‑on leadership role will define testing strategy, build an automation framework from the ground up and mentor a small QA team, ensuring our platforms deliver reliable experiences to thousands of daily users.

Key responsibilities

• Define and prioritize test strategy across multiple concurrent projects based on risk and business impact.
• Design and implement a test automation framework, starting with critical workflows and selecting appropriate tools.
• Establish release quality gates and a clear definition of “ready to ship”.
• Set up a consistent bug‑triage process, including severity and priority guidelines.
• Convert recurring support and user‑reported issues into structured, trackable bugs and feed findings back into test coverage.
• Mentor and grow the existing QA team, fostering a culture of quality.
• Collaborate closely with developers, product managers, operations, merchants, finance and riders to catch issues early in design and code review stages.

Required profile

• 6+ years of experience in software quality assurance, with at least 1‑2 years leading strategy or process.
• Proven hands‑on experience building test automation frameworks from scratch.
• Comfortable defining processes and making decisions in a “build‑it” environment.
• Background in products with real operational stakes such as marketplace, logistics or fintech.
• Strong leadership and mentoring abilities.
• ISTQB certification or equivalent practical depth is a plus.
