Engineering Geologist

About the role

The Engineering Geologist will support the planning, design and construction of infrastructure projects by conducting geological and geotechnical investigations. Working closely with engineering and construction teams, the role ensures safe and efficient project execution through accurate site assessments and technical recommendations.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out systematic geological face mapping at each excavation round and maintain detailed logs, joint/discontinuity records and photographic documentation.
• Classify rock mass using RMR, Q‑system and GSI and recommend appropriate support classes in line with contract drawings and specifications.
• Advise on excavation methods, round length and blast/mechanical adjustments based on encountered ground conditions.
• Identify adverse ground conditions (shear/fault zones, swelling ground, water ingress, overbreak‑prone areas) and propose remedial measures such as probe holes, spiling, forepoling and grouting.
• Monitor and interpret geotechnical instrumentation (convergence, crown settlement, load cells, extensometers) and report deviations from predicted behaviour.
• Verify installed support against actual ground conditions and certify quantities for measurement purposes.
• Assess portal, slope and adit stability, provide surface geological mapping and recommend slope treatment.
• Prepare longitudinal geological sections comparing predicted versus actual conditions and support claim documentation.
• Maintain daily, weekly and monthly geological reports and coordinate ground classification agreements with the Engineer/Client representative.
• Support tunnel safety measures, including post‑round inspections and hazard control instructions.

Required profile

• Minimum of 5 years (60 months) experience in engineering geology or geotechnical investigations for infrastructure projects.
• Proven ability to work on‑site with engineering and construction teams.
