National Project Coordinator

About the role

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Nepal is seeking a National Project Coordinator to lead the implementation of two complementary initiatives: “Strengthening Agrifood Systems in Nepal” and “Innovative Financial Solutions for Local Food Systems Transformation”. The role combines technical, programmatic and operational leadership to drive agrifood system transformation, promote inclusive financing and ensure effective coordination among multiple UN agencies, government bodies and local partners.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain detailed implementation plans, annual work plans, budgets, procurement and HR schedules, risk registers and monitoring calendars.
• Coordinate activities across four target municipalities, ensuring alignment of governance, production, nutrition, enterprise, water, inclusion and environmental workstreams.
• Prepare a joint implementation and synergy matrix for activities in Panchkhal Municipality, identifying complementary interventions, responsible parties, timelines, beneficiaries and financing sources.
• Lead day‑to‑day coordination of FAO’s component of the Joint SDG Fund project, liaising with UN partners, municipal authorities, financial institutions, private‑sector partners and women‑led enterprises.
• Translate project documents and work plans into clear assignments, timelines and quality standards, track progress and trigger corrective actions when needed.
• Oversee design and delivery of capacity‑building programmes on food‑system governance, cooperative performance, financial management, gender and social inclusion, climate‑smart agriculture and nutrition.
• Manage transparent beneficiary identification and ensure targeting of women, youth, vulnerable households and farmer groups.
• Supervise technical specifications, site readiness and post‑distribution monitoring for inputs such as irrigation equipment, solar dryers, water purification and sanitation facilities.
• Establish and maintain a results‑monitoring system with disaggregated, geotagged data, activity records and asset registers.
• Prepare regular reports (inception, monthly, quarterly, annual and final) and support steering committees and task forces with agendas, documentation and follow‑up actions.
