Water Supply and Irrigation Engineering Expert

About the role

The Water Supply and Irrigation Engineering Expert will support Nepal’s Local Infrastructure Support Programme (LISP) by delivering demand‑driven technical assistance to local and provincial governments. Based in Kathmandu with regular travel to Lumbini, the role focuses on strengthening planning, design, implementation and maintenance of water supply and irrigation systems.

Key responsibilities

• Lead mobile technical assignments on water supply and irrigation projects.
• Diagnose institutional and engineering challenges and propose practical improvements.
• Develop and oversee improvement plans, providing coaching to Support Engineers and local staff.
• Mentor and guide Support Engineers, monitoring progress and ensuring technical quality.
• Coordinate with programme teams to align technical work with overall project delivery.

Required profile

• Minimum 10 years (120 months) of experience in water supply and irrigation engineering.
• Proven experience working with local or provincial government institutions.
• Demonstrated ability to lead field assignments and mentor junior engineers.
• Strong analytical skills to assess systems and design improvement actions.
