Assistant Pastry Chef

About the role

The Assistant Pastry Chef supports the Executive Pastry Chef in delivering high‑quality pastry products aboard a cruise ship. You will help supervise the pastry team, ensure compliance with health regulations, and maintain the visual appeal of buffet and tea‑time displays.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Pastry Chef in supervising team members and enforcing company policies.
• Coach, support, evaluate and schedule pastry staff in collaboration with the Executive Pastry Chef.
• Maintain taste, quality and visual consistency of pastries according to corporate recipes and photographs.
• Set up pastry displays for all buffets and tea‑time service.
• Ensure daily compliance with United States Public Health Rules and Regulations.
• Oversee cleaning schedules, equipment care and uniform standards.
• Monitor food production, record leftovers and control waste to stay within budget.
• Prepare food requisitions, receive deliveries and store items according to health regulations.
• Participate in USPH inspections, meetings, training and other work‑related activities.

Required profile

• Minimum two years experience as a Pastry Chef or equivalent in an upscale hotel, resort, cruise ship or convention banqueting service.
• Culinary school degree required.
• Strong management abilities in a multicultural, dynamic environment.
• Excellent communication, problem‑solving and decision‑making skills.
• Superior customer service, team‑building and conflict‑resolution capabilities.
