Head of Civil Engineering – Steel Plant Project

About the role

Prime Steel is building a new integrated steel plant at Birgunj, Nepal, including a melt shop, hot strip mill and a 500,000 TPA merchant and wire rod mill. The company seeks a senior civil leader to own all civil and structural works through construction.

Key responsibilities

• Lead all civil works such as heavy machine foundations, mill and furnace foundations, cable and scale trenches, pits, water, roads and drainage networks.
• Review and approve designs and drawings from consultants and equipment suppliers, releasing foundation drawings on time for equipment erection.
• Plan and control civil contractors on schedule, quality, quantities and billing, and certify contractor bills.
• Coordinate with mechanical, electrical and equipment supplier teams on embedments, anchor bolts and interfaces.
• Run QA/QC for concrete, steel and soil, including testing and record keeping.
• Enforce site safety across a large construction workforce and oversee PEB buildings and staff/labour quarters.

Required profile

• BE/B.Tech in civil engineering (ME in structures is a plus).
• 15+ years in civil construction of heavy industrial plants, preferably steel, rolling mills, cement or power, with at least 5 years leading civil works for a greenfield project.
• Strong experience with dynamic machine foundations and managing multiple contractors.
• Willingness to be based onsite in Birgunj.
