PostgreSQL Database Administrator

About the role

IME Khalti Limited is seeking a PostgreSQL Database Administrator to design, operate and optimise high‑availability PostgreSQL clusters that power its digital payment platform. The role combines infrastructure engineering, performance tuning and incident response in a fast‑moving fintech environment.

Key responsibilities

• Install, configure and administer PostgreSQL clusters in production and non‑production environments, including streaming replication, replication slots and WAL archiving.
• Design, implement and troubleshoot HA solutions using distributed consensus, HAProxy/Keepalived or equivalent, and manage failover and switchover processes.
• Configure and maintain PgBouncer connection pooling, monitor connection limits and resolve related incidents.
• Plan and execute major‑version upgrades and migrations, defining rollback strategies and downtime windows.
• Implement physical and logical backup/recovery procedures, point‑in‑time recovery and WAL management.
• Diagnose performance problems such as locks, deadlocks, replication lag, bloat and I/O constraints; tune core PostgreSQL parameters and optimise queries using EXPLAIN/EXPLAIN ANALYZE.
• Deploy and maintain observability stack (PMM, Grafana, Prometheus), create alerts for replication, WAL, locks, checkpoints and resource usage.
• Automate routine DBA tasks with Bash/Shell, Python and Ansible, and produce detailed architecture and operational documentation.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years of hands‑on PostgreSQL administration experience.
• Experience in high‑transaction fintech or payment systems is a plus.

Required skills

• PostgreSQL (cluster setup, streaming replication, HA, backup/recovery).
• PgBouncer, HAProxy/Keepalived or equivalent traffic management tools.
• Monitoring tools such as PMM, Grafana and Prometheus.
• Scripting/automation with Bash/Shell, Python and Ansible.
• SQL performance analysis (EXPLAIN, query optimisation, indexing, partitioning).
