Program Director & Project Manager (Disaster Recovery)

About the role

This senior position leads a nonprofit program that helps communities recover after disasters and restores children’s access to education. Reporting to the International Recovery Manager, the role oversees strategy, budgeting, staffing and on‑site execution of construction and community projects.

Key responsibilities

• Provide overall leadership and accountability for program strategy, scope, quality, impact, timeline and budget.
• Develop, manage and continuously review detailed implementation plans, milestones, timelines and budgets using Salesforce, MS Project and financial tracking tools.
• Ensure delivery of all activities within approved timelines, budgets and donor/quality standards.
• Recruit, onboard, train and manage a diverse staff team of 3‑5 reports, fostering a supportive and high‑performing environment.
• Establish and communicate work, quality and safety practices across all project sites.
• Act as technical lead on construction sites, coordinating with engineers and the technical capacity team.
• Develop and maintain health, safety, security, emergency and evacuation procedures.
• Lead capacity‑building and technical training for site supervisors, masons and other field staff.

Required profile

• Proven experience in program and project management within humanitarian or disaster‑recovery contexts.
• Strong leadership skills with a track record of managing multidisciplinary teams.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and control budgets and financial forecasts.
• Experience overseeing construction or infrastructure projects, including safety and quality standards.
• Excellent communication skills for stakeholder engagement and reporting.
