Senior DRR & Humanitarian Coordinator

About the role

The Senior Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) & Humanitarian Emergency Affairs Coordinator provides field‑level leadership to strengthen disaster preparedness, readiness, and response across Nepal’s federal, provincial, and local structures. Working under a US government‑funded initiative, the role designs, coordinates and implements DRR and emergency preparedness activities with partner NGOs.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design, coordination and implementation of DRR and emergency preparedness activities.
• Facilitate multi‑hazard risk assessments, vulnerability mapping and scenario analysis.
• Strengthen local early warning systems and anticipatory action mechanisms.
• Support development and updating of Local Disaster and Climate Resilience Frameworks and preparedness plans.
• Promote integration of DRR into local development planning processes.
• Collaborate with local, provincial and national authorities, humanitarian clusters, NGOs and community stakeholders.
• Ensure partner NGOs have strong capacity in DRR and emergency response.
• Align activities with global humanitarian standards such as Sphere and the Core Humanitarian Standards.

Required profile

• Proven experience in disaster risk reduction and humanitarian emergency coordination.
• Experience working closely with local governments, provincial and national authorities, NGOs and community stakeholders.
• Familiarity with global humanitarian standards (Sphere, Core Humanitarian Standards).

Required skills

• Multi‑hazard risk assessment methodologies.
• Vulnerability mapping and scenario analysis.
• Early warning system design and anticipatory action planning.
