National Project Officer (Shelter)

About the role

The National Project Officer (Shelter) will support IOM’s emergency and transitional shelter response following the August 2026 floods in central Nepal. Reporting to the Head of MECR department and under the Chief of Mission, the officer will provide technical leadership for shelter design, implementation and recovery activities across affected districts.

Key responsibilities

• Provide overall technical leadership for emergency, transitional and self‑recovery shelter interventions, ensuring compliance with government requirements and humanitarian standards.
• Oversee shelter designs, specifications, and implementation approaches, and guide field teams on hazard‑resistant solutions and settlement planning using the LOCALISE framework.
• Coordinate with government authorities, Shelter and CCCM Cluster partners, and other stakeholders to maintain technical quality and complementarity.
• Support technical reporting, assessments, project planning, resource mobilization and donor engagement.
• Deliver training and orientation on shelter and settlement standards to field engineers, masons and contractors.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in development studies, disaster management, social sciences or a related field.
• Minimum of 2 years professional experience in humanitarian settings, preferably with administrative and operational support.
• Fluency in English and Nepali (oral and written).
• Ability to work independently under pressure, travel frequently and work weekends/overtime as needed.
