Senior Specialist – Regional Information Services Lead

About the role

ICIMOD is seeking a Senior Specialist to lead its Regional Information Services (RIS) programme. The role will shape digital information strategies, oversee a multidisciplinary team, and ensure high‑quality data and insights support climate‑related decision‑making across the Hindu Kush Himalaya region.

Key responsibilities

• Provide thought leadership on digital information services, AI, machine learning and cloud‑based solutions.
• Supervise and manage the RIS team, coordinating with other ICIMOD units and external partners.
• Oversee the development and integration of regional datasets, GIS, remote‑sensing tools and innovative digital platforms.
• Ensure timely, high‑quality delivery of information products and services.
• Manage programme risks, budgets, and resource allocation.
• Facilitate clear communication and role definition across the organisation.

Required profile

• PhD in Digital Information Services, Data Science, Earth Observation, GIS or related field, with at least 10 years of relevant experience; or a master’s degree with 12 years of progressive experience.
• Minimum five years of leadership or people‑management experience in multidisciplinary, multicultural settings.
• Proven track record leading large, complex programmes, including strategic planning and budgeting.
• Strong understanding of data and information systems for scientific decision‑making.
