Media & Communications Coordinator – Humanitarian Flood Response

About the role

Save the Children is seeking a Media & Communications Coordinator to lead the humanitarian media and communications strategy for the flood response in Kathmandu. The role will ensure timely, accurate and dignified communication that supports response objectives, engages stakeholders and protects the rights of affected communities.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement a media and communications plan aligned with the flood response strategy and organisational priorities.
• Identify and seize strategic communication opportunities to raise visibility of response efforts and humanitarian needs.
• Monitor emerging issues, reputational risks and propose appropriate communication responses.
• Maintain a tracker of media visits, journalist interviews, and external engagement activities.
• Support the preparation and coordination of media visits and press briefings with field teams and response leadership.
• Produce and edit content for various channels while ensuring compliance with safeguarding, consent and dignity standards.
• Collaborate closely with the PDQI Director and other programme staff to ensure consistent messaging.

Required profile

• Relevant experience in media, communications or public relations within humanitarian or development contexts.
• Ability to work under tight deadlines and in high‑pressure environments.
• Understanding of child safeguarding and consent principles.
• Readiness to join within 24 hours of an offer and to work onsite in Kathmandu.
