Chief Credit Officer – Senior Management Role

About the role

Gurkhas Finance Ltd. is seeking experienced senior professionals to lead its credit, legal, and branch operations. The Chief Credit Officer will steer credit appraisal and risk measurement, while the Head of Legal Department will manage all legal affairs and represent the institution in regulatory matters.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and oversee credit appraisal, risk assessment, and compliance with credit policies and NRB directives.
• Review credit proposals, ensure timely processing of appraisal reports, and monitor emerging credit risks.
• Coordinate with business units, risk management, legal, compliance, credit administration, and recovery teams.
• Lead the legal function, provide advice to the board and management, and draft, review, and negotiate contracts and policies.
• Represent the institution before courts, regulatory authorities, and government agencies, handling debt recovery tribunal matters.
• Identify legal and regulatory risks, recommend mitigation measures, and strengthen legal governance.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Management, Finance, Banking, Accounting or related field (or Bachelor’s with exceptional experience).
• Minimum 10 years banking experience with credit lending operations, including at least 5 years in a managerial role (Chief Credit Officer).
• Minimum 8 years relevant legal experience in banking or corporate practice, with at least 2 years in a leadership role (Head of Legal).
• Strong leadership, analytical, decision‑making, and report‑writing abilities.
