Research Officer

About the role

BBC Media Action is seeking a Research Officer to lead and deliver research activities across its development and communication programmes in Nepal. The role involves designing studies, managing fieldwork, analysing data and translating findings into actionable insights for project teams.

Key responsibilities

• Design and conduct rapid assessments, baseline and end‑line surveys, and impact evaluations.
• Develop research methodologies and tools, manage fieldwork logistics, and ensure ethical standards.
• Analyse quantitative and qualitative data, generate insights and prepare high‑quality reports, blogs and presentations.
• Lead surveys, interviews and focus groups, recruit and supervise field researchers.
• Validate findings with local partners and communicate results to project and production teams.

Required profile

• Minimum university degree in social sciences, mass communication or related field.
• At least four years of experience managing research projects, preferably in development or humanitarian contexts.
• Strong written and spoken communication skills in both Nepali and English.
• Willingness to travel across Nepal for field activities.

Required skills

• Proficiency with statistical software such as SPSS and STATA.
• Advanced Excel skills for data handling and analysis.
• PowerPoint for creating presentations and knowledge products.
