Assistant Researcher (Field Data Collection)

About the role

We are looking for a motivated Assistant Researcher to support field‑based research in the remote districts of Myagdi and Mustang, Nepal. The role combines on‑the‑ground data collection with rigorous academic analysis to produce policy‑relevant reports.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct household surveys, key informant interviews and focus‑group discussions, recording answers and capturing audio, video and photographic evidence.
• Map routes and ensure safe travel in high‑altitude terrain.
• Enter data in real‑time using Kobo Toolbox, manage the digital database and securely store all files.
• Transcribe interviews and translate Nepali responses into English while preserving context.
• Assist the lead researcher in analysing data, drafting policy briefs, baseline reports and creating basic visualisations such as charts, graphs and maps.
• Coordinate daily field plans with the Field Coordinator and support fellow assistants with documentation tasks.

Required profile

• At least 12 months of experience in field research or data collection.
• Strong attention to detail, resilience in challenging environments and respect for local cultures.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a small team.

Required skills

• Kobo Toolbox for digital data entry and management.
• Basic data visualisation (charts, graphs, maps).
• Audio/video recording and photographic documentation.
