Civil Engineer – Hydropower Projects

About the role
We are looking for a qualified Civil Engineer to lead and supervise civil works on major hydropower projects in Manang, Nepal. The role involves overseeing construction, ensuring quality, and coordinating with clients, consultants, contractors, and site teams.
Key responsibilities
- Supervise construction of diversion works, dams/weirs, intakes, desanders, headrace tunnels/canals, surge shafts, penstock alignments, powerhouses and tailraces.
- Manage excavation (surface and underground), rock support, shotcreting, rock bolting and grouting activities.
- Oversee formwork, reinforcement and mass concrete placement, including temperature control and curing for large pours.
- Interpret structural, hydraulic and geological drawings and resolve design discrepancies.
- Perform quantity take‑offs, measure executed work and verify contractor bills and progress claims.
- Implement quality control through material testing (concrete cubes, aggregates, soil compaction) and ensure compliance with IS and relevant codes.
- Monitor construction schedule, track progress against the baseline and propose recovery plans for delays.
- Enforce site safety, especially for tunneling, work at height and heavy equipment operations.
- Coordinate survey and setting‑out works, checking levels, alignment and maintaining as‑built records.
- Prepare and manage documentation such as daily progress reports, inspection requests, method statements, RFIs and handover records.
- Liaise with geotechnical teams on adverse ground conditions, seepage and instrumentation monitoring.
- Mentor junior engineers, sub‑engineers and site supervisors.
Required profile
- Minimum 5 years of experience in civil engineering for hydropower or large infrastructure projects.
- Strong knowledge of construction methods for dams, tunnels and related structures.
- Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings.
- Proven experience in quantity surveying and contractor claim verification.
- Excellent understanding of quality control procedures and relevant codes.
- Effective communication and coordination skills with multidisciplinary teams.
