GIS Instructor – Teach Geographic Information Systems

About the role

We are seeking a passionate GIS Instructor to design and deliver engaging training in Geographic Information Systems. The role focuses on building learners’ competence in GIS software, spatial analysis, and real‑world geospatial projects.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver GIS training sessions for beginner to intermediate learners.
• Teach fundamentals of QGIS, ArcGIS, spatial data collection, map design and cartography.
• Demonstrate practical techniques for spatial data processing, editing, visualization and analysis.
• Guide learners through hands‑on exercises, assignments and real‑world GIS projects.
• Prepare lesson plans, presentations, datasets and other learning materials.
• Evaluate learner progress via assignments, quizzes and projects, providing constructive feedback.
• Introduce relevant geospatial technologies, workflows and industry practices.
• Maintain up‑to‑date course materials aligned with current GIS tools.
• Support learners in developing portfolios that showcase their GIS skills.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Geography, Geomatics, GIS, Environmental Science, Urban Planning or related field.
• Strong practical knowledge of GIS and spatial data analysis.
• Proficiency in QGIS and/or ArcGIS.
• Understanding of coordinate systems, projections, spatial databases and geospatial data formats.
• Knowledge of cartography, spatial analysis and map visualization principles.
• Experience working with vector and raster datasets.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Prior teaching, training or professional GIS experience preferred.
• Relevant GIS, Remote Sensing or Geomatics certifications are an advantage.
