Governance & Energy Research Intern

About the role

VRock & Company is looking for a Governance & Energy Research Intern to support live consulting assignments in Nepal’s energy sector. The intern will work alongside senior consultants, gaining hands‑on experience in policy research, public finance, local governance and energy‑sector analysis.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct literature reviews and collect quantitative and qualitative data on energy policies, regulations and institutional frameworks.
• Support key‑informant interviews, focus groups, stakeholder consultations and field visits.
• Analyse data sets using spreadsheets and statistical tools, preparing tables, charts and visualisations.
• Assist in drafting technical reports, policy briefs, presentations and other project documentation.
• Contribute to research on hydropower development, power purchase agreements, tariff structures, electricity markets and cross‑border power trade.

Required profile

• Currently enrolled in a university program related to economics, public policy, environmental studies or a similar field.
• Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Willingness to travel for field visits within Nepal.
