Internal Audit Officer – Mortgage Industry

About the role

The Internal Audit Officer will conduct compliance audits of broker loan files, review documentation and ensure adherence to NCCP obligations, Best Interests Duty and Responsible Lending requirements. This role supports the compliance function across the mortgage broking business.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and execute scheduled and ad‑hoc internal compliance audits on broker loan files.
• Review documentation such as fact finds, income verification, credit guides and serviceability calculations for completeness and accuracy.
• Prepare detailed audit reports, assign risk ratings and recommend corrective actions.
• Manage remediation by issuing actions to brokers, monitoring completion and conducting follow‑up reviews.
• Monitor compliance trends, identify systemic risks and suggest process improvements.
• Collaborate with compliance management to enhance audit methodology and workflow.
• Provide training support, including audit feedback sessions and compliance workshops.
• Assist with regulatory activities such as ASIC reviews, aggregator audits and external compliance requests.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of NCCP, Best Interests Duty and Responsible Lending obligations.
• Experience in mortgage broker compliance, loan file auditing or credit assessment.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to spot compliance breaches.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and risk assessment capabilities.
• Good understanding of ASIC regulations, AML/CTF obligations and aggregator requirements.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and document‑management systems.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with brokers and stakeholders.
